I grew up in Heber City, Utah, at the foot of the Uinta Mountains. My grandfather first took me elk hunting when I was twelve — a week-long pack trip into the high country that changed everything. The mountains became my classroom. I learned to read sign, glass basins at first light, and pack out an elk in the dark. By the time I graduated high school, I had spent more nights in a wall tent than most people spend in their entire lives.
After college I guided part-time while ranching outside Heber. Word spread. Clients came back season after season and started bringing friends. By 2015 I was guiding full-time, earning outfitter licenses across five Western states — Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Each state opened new country: the Flat Tops, the Frank Church, the Wind Rivers, the Bob Marshall.
Today Bateman Outfitters runs hunts, fishing trips, and wilderness expeditions out of Heber City. Every trip is personally guided by me — no subcontractors, no corporate operations. Just one guide who knows this country like the back of his hand. I keep my parties small because that is how you have a real experience in wild country, and I put my name on every outing because my reputation is the only advertising I need.
Brett was born and raised in the shadow of the Uintas. He knows every drainage, every elk migration route, every cutthroat stream within a hundred miles.
Maximum 4 clients per trip. Brett guides every outing personally — no hand-offs to junior guides or subcontractors.
Every hunt is conducted within regulations. All licenses, tags, and permits verified before departure. Leave-no-trace principles on every trip.
From camp setup to pack-out, Brett handles the logistics. Bring your personal gear — everything else is provided or coordinated.
